Shape Up US– A 501c3 non-profit corporation dedicated to preventing obesity. Shape Up US contributes to building a healthy future for America’s children by improving the health, fitness and overall well-being of youth and their families through awareness, education and action. Jyl Steinback is the Executive Director, and the 2011 Community Leadership Award winner from the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition.

I Don’t Stink – Geared to the concept of improving self-esteem and designed for the young and young at heart, this wonderful website rids you of negative “stinking thinking.” Created by author and lecturer Bill King, the text is designed in such a way as to overload you with negative things to bring awareness to how you normally process information. Unfortunately, most of us focus a lot on negative thoughts during our typical day without even knowing it. The first step to getting your STINK OUT is to become aware of your negative STINKIN’ thoughts. This site will help you get started and provide you a place to come back to often.

Yum-o – Launched in 2006 by Rachael Ray, Yum-o!® is a nonprofit organization that empowers kids and their families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking by teaching families to cook, feeding hungry kids and funding cooking education and scholarships.

Reach Out and Read – A national, non-profit organization that promotes early literacy by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud in pediatric exam rooms across the nation. The Reach Out and Read program provides the tools to help promote children’s developmental skills and later school success.

seeMommyrun – A free Internet service to help busy women find or start child-friendly running or walking groups convenient to their personal geographic needs, time constraints, and fitness abilities.

Team Nutrition – Improving children’s lifelong eating and physical activity habits by using the principles of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Food Guide Pyramid.

National Kindergarten Alliance –  National organization that serves kindergarten teachers throughout the United States. Primary goals are to encourage and assist the formation of state organizations, identify appropriate practices that effect positive change for kindergarten children, and provide support and leadership development to kindergarten teachers.

Healthy Childcare – Bi-monthly magazine with wonderful health and safety ideas for the young child.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) – provides Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.

National Head Start Association – Head Start is the national commitment to give every child, regardless of circumstances at birth, an opportunity to succeed in school and in life. In the 50 years since its inception, Head Start has improved the lives of more than 32 million children and their families.

National Association for the Education of Young Children – The nation’s largest and most influential organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of programs for children from birth through third grade.

National Children’s Literacy Project – A not-for-profit organization that partners with individuals, educators, corporations, and public organizations to enhance the literacy skills and enthusiasm of children throughout the United States.
